Hello, my name is Anna. This blog is about all the beautiful islands around the world.

149 hokkaido

Finally, a card from Hokkaido! I already got cards from the other main islands of Japan, but it was somehow a bit more difficult to get one from this second largest Japanese island. The card was sent by my dear friend Yukina, and it's a special one - you can't see it on the photo, but the picture changes when you move the card.

As Yukina wrote the island is full of fascinating things. There is delicious seafood, beautiful views and lots of cute and cool souvenires to bring back home to your friends :). As many travel guides confirm, "Hokkaido is renowned for the high quality and freshness of its seafood, as the cold waters surrounding Japan's northernmost prefecture are ideal for fish and sea vegetation." The best way to try it is to visit a fish market and have a donburi (rice bowl) with toppings like e.g. fresh uni (sea urchin), ikura (salmon roe) or ika (squid). Yukina even included a drawing of a donburi on the card :)! I can't wait to visit Japan and try all the local food! :) // Thank you Yukina!
