161 spiekeroog
This next card was sent by Liane, from her holidays on the German island of Spiekeroog.
It is one of the East Frisian Islands and it is part of the UNESCO Wadden Sea World Heritage Site. It has only 18.25 km2, there are no cars on the island and you can reach it by a daily ferry from the German mainland. Island's name was first mentioned in 1398, as Spiekeroch, when it was a hiding place for pirates. Nowadays it is believed that word "Spiekeroog" means "storage island".
Liane wrote in her card that during summer the island is full of tourists. A survey from 2003 confirms it, claiming that there are 640,000 tourists visiting Spiekeroog each year. Those who come to this island can of course enjoy the nature, but there are also other interesting sights, like a 3,50 m high sculpture on the dunes, or the Shell Museum (Kuriose Muschelmuseum) with an exhibition of 2000 shells from all over the world. // Thanks Liane!

Niesamowity widok,nigdy bym nie pomyślała że taka wyspa może należeć do Niemiec;-) widok zapiera dech w piersiach,więc jest na wyciągnięcie ręki ;)
