104 islands of denmark + a giveaway
Denmark - another beautiful map, another country of many islands.
There are about 406 islands in Denmark, but only 70 of them are inhabited. The largest is Zealand, with about 45% of the country's population. And let's don't forget the Faroe Islands and Greenland, autonomous island-countries within the Kingdom of Denmark.
This beautiful card was sent from Denmark's 5th largest island - Bornholm, I will tell you more about it in the next post. On this map it's shown in the lower right corner, but it's only to fit in on the card, in reality it's located much further from the rest of Denmark. Rebekka, who sent the card, mentioned that not every map placed it correctly, and there were even sailors, who got lost on their way to Bornholm, trusting the inaccurate maps. Rebekka decorated the card with a flag of Denmark, and a lovely stamp with Copenhagen's statue of Little Mermaid - the well known figure from a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
(And now it's time for a giveaway!)
Yesterday it was the 75th birthday of the Danish Queen, Margrethe II. Coincidentally, I've just received some beautiful cards and stamps from Greenland featuring the Queen, so I thought that this anniversary is a good chance for a small giveaway! If you'd like to win a set of Greenlandic card and stamps, just have a look on the FB page of my project.
