Hello, my name is Anna. This blog is about all the beautiful islands around the world.

10 madeira

Located in the Atlantic Ocean, about 400km from another island - Tenerife and about 560 km off the coast of Morocco, Madeira archipelago is one of the two autonomous regions of Portugal. Cristina, who sent the postcard wrote also that: "the entire north coast of the island is just like in this postcard, high steep cliffs covered in green, with the Atlantic waves crashing agains the rocks. The south coast is warmer and more populated, with cultivation of bananas and grapes (Madeira wine sounds familiar? :)) and many popular beaches. Curiously enough our beaches don't have sand but rounded pebbles! Why? Because the island was created by a volcano, and since it isn't very old, the rocks haven't yet eroded to fine sand."

If you want to know more about the island, start from reading about 10 reasons to visit Madeira!

Thank you Cristina for sending this card and telling us a bit about your beautiful island!
