137 kornati islands
There are 1,185 islands, rocks and reefs in Croatia, but only 48 of them are inhabited. Now I can finally show you a card from one of them!
It has travelled from the Kornati archipelago, consisting of around 140 islands. 89 of them are a part of Kornati National Park, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Agi, who sent this card, works on one of them, but as there are no post offices on the archipelago, the card was sent from a neighbour island — Murter. The large island you see on the card is Kornat, main island of the archipelago, 16th largest island in Croatia. In 2007 the island witnessed the biggest fire fighting accident in the history of Croatia. The tragedy is now commemorated by a special monument for the Kornati firefighters, who lost their lives in the fire.
For more information about the National Park, have a look here. Thank you Agi for this beautiful card!kornati
