81 grande-terre, guadeloupe
Guadeloupe is an overseas region of France; it consists of two main islands: Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre connected by bridges, and smaller islands of Marie-Galante, La Désirade, and the Îles des Saintes.
This card was sent by Sonia from the Grande-Terre, which despite its name is actually smaller of the two main islands. While the other is mountainous and volcanic, Grande-Terre has amazing white and golden sand beaches, turquoise lagoons and excellent surfing spots. Any food lovers should also visit the island, as it is a perfect place to try the French-Creole cuisine. Moreover, Grande Terre is also home to one of the most unique places in Guadeloupe, the cemetery of Morne-à-L’eau, with black and white graves layed out in the shape of an amphitheater. This year it will be even registered as a french historical monument (just like Pere Lachaise in Paris). To learn more about Grand-Terre and the rest of archipelago, have a look here.Thank you Sonia for sending this beautiful card!
