35 Île de Ré
Île de Ré is part of the Charente-Maritime département, just as its neigbours: Oléron and Aix islands, that I've already received cards from.
Ré is located close to city of La Rochelle, and can be actually reached by crossing a 2,9 km bridge from mainland France. As with the other Charente-Maritime islands, it's interesting to know how the island's population changes depending on the season - if you visit Île de Ré in winter, there are about 20,000 inhabitants, but if you come in the summer, there will be over 220,000 people!
The main port on the island is called Saint-Martin, and its old city (surrounded by the walls of the citadel) was added in 2008 to the World Heritage Site list.If you want to know more about the island, have a look here! Big thanks to Stéphane for sending this card!
